Basic Pack
A basic pack should contain the following items:
- Identification
- Boots
- Weather-appropriate clothes (including hat, gloves, bug jacket as appropriate)
- Sunglasses/safety glasses
- Compass
- Light source (headlamp, flashlight)
- Notebook and pencil/pen
- Pocket knife and/or Multi-tool
- Flagging tape
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Whistle
- Small ruler or tape measure
- Water/snacks
Optional items:
- Spare batteries
- Walking stick
- Bug spray
- Sunscreen
Day Pack
The day pack is generally used for longer duration exercises, hinterland exercises, overnight trips and should contain the following:
- Basic Pack items
- Emergency survival kit
- Change of clothing (socks etc.)
- Small towel
- Signal mirror
- Large plastic garbage bag (orange preferred)
- Toilet paper
- Survival Blanket (insulated & one side red or orange recommended)
- Waterproof matches
- Fire starter
- Food rations for a day
- Emergency rations
- Couple of bottles of water
- Rope and webbing
- Roll of duct tape
- Wire saw / folding saw
- Gloves
Optional:
- Binoculars
- Hunting knife
- Tarp
- Spare batteries
- Snare wire
Overnight Pack
The Overnight Pack is used for overnight callouts and should contain the following items:
- Day Pack items
- Sleeping bag (appropriate to temps)
- Sleeping pad
- Ground sheet
- Changes of clothing
- Cooking utensils
Optional / group gear:
- Small axe
- Mini Shovel
- Tent
- Heavier sleeping bags
